Unrestrained guitar noise can be oppressive at times, but crafted with a bit of love and care it can be mighty. Take the newest cut from Australian four-piece, Tired Lion, for example. ‘I Don’t Think You Like Me’ roars like the winter’s howling wind and zings with feisty attitude.
I’ve not been able to pull myself away from hitting repeat since I first laid my ears on the raging dynamics and insatiable hooks of ‘I Don’t Think You Like Me’. This is a band that can translate teenage angst into something more beautiful and visceral than the initial emotion itself. Well done, well done.
The age of female-fronted bands is slowly becoming a reality, with Wolf Alice and Black Honey also flying the flag higher than ever before for guitar music. Waltzing around with attitude, Tired Lion’s Sophie Hopes is a powerful vocal force of ferocious candour tied together with a sweetness that is as tantalisingly desirable as candy.
‘I Don’t Think You Like Me’ is the first single to be taken off the bands forthcoming second EP. Stream the track below.
