Opting to remain ambiguous and to only exist outside of the interweb, newly-formed foursome, October Drift have managed to create a campaign most would laugh at. The band are still to pitch up on social media, the only current ways to reach them being through their website and a soundcloud page. But who cares, it’s all about the music anyway. The band have already sold-out two of the four début shows on their first tour, and the word continues to spread, as Clash Magazine picked up the quartet’s début track ‘Whoever’ for the exclusive premiere this week. Yes, all this from good old fashioned word-of-mouth, it can be done after all.
‘Whoever’ was sneakily dropped by the band’s management just a few days after Christmas, managing to bring us one surprising and most satisfying last-minute present. October Drift have been quietly working away for the past 6 or so months on creating what we are now just being treated to.
Their début single ‘Whoever’ proves that this band mean business. Rising like a phoenix, the track instantly grabs hold and won’t let go. Rapid hits of percussion and echoing reverb create an oppressive atmosphere only opposed by a melodic rage, one which charges into play compelling the vocal out of its self-assured stoicism and into a battle cry.
In a life where we are plagued by questions about who we are, where did we come from, what’s going to happen next…’Whoever’ is the answer to all of these limitless questions, quite simply affirming there are no real answers, no one really knows. We just move on with life the best we can, struggling and growing with each new day.
