Sometimes we come across bands but never get around to listening to them. I know I’m guilty of this, and most of time I’m missing out on something really great, so rather than waste any more time not listening to what could be our new favourite band. I decided a list was appropriate – 5 Bands You May Have Heard Of But Never Listened To.
Brother/Sister duo Thom and Lucy Southern are a delightful combination. They combine blues rhythms with the subtleties of folk. Enriched with gorgeous harmonies and vivacious charm, echoing the captivating softer side of Wolf Alice. Southern are an exciting young band. Their new single ‘Where I Want To Be‘ will be released on 18th August. Listen to the B-Side ‘The Way You Breathe’ below.
2. The Minx
Manchester’s punk revellers The Minx have been favourites of ours for a while now. Their classic track ‘No Friends’ gets a new lease of life after being given a makeover by Cenzo Townsend. The track is a celebration of all the things that we love about this band – pop music with added bite, punk sassiness and light-hearted fun. ‘No Friends’ will be released on 1st September.
3. The Good Sports
Queensland psychedelic guitar pop band, The Good Sports, recently dropped their début EP ‘Mandarin Time’. The band take lazy days at the beach to the extreme with dreamy slacker vocals edging over dazzlingly delirious sunny melodies. It’s the perfect combination for a good time. Our new favourite band definitely. What is it with the music that’s coming out of Australia? There must be something in the water surely. Astonishingly good.
4. Shy Nature
London’s Shy Nature make us swoon, sing-a-long and dance all at the same time. The band’s latest single ‘She Comes She Goes’ is another sure fire hit, taken off their forthcoming EP ‘Birthday Club’, which we are told will be released into the world this autumn. ‘She Comes She Goes’ shows a band that have refined their sound early on and one that knows exactly how to get the modern music listener’s blood boiling and pulsing with excitement. Svelte guitar lines and freshly ground pop hooks all help to define this band as one of the UK’s best.
5. Clap Clap Riot
Auckland based band, Clap Clap Riot recently released their new record ‘Nobody/Everybody’. The band’s catchy guitar pop combines classic rock’n’roll with upbeat, infectious meldodic hooks that will stay with you for days on end. Their new single ‘All About The Weather’ is another gem, taken off their latest record. It’s as breezy as a summer’s day yet it never looses it’s lyrical intensity, which is a sign of a band that know what they’re doing. Check it out below.
