TRACK OF THE DAY: Slowcoaches – ‘Drag’

‘Drag’ from Slowcoaches is all rush, no hush, as any self-respecting pop-punk influenced track ought to be. Sounding like something from the soundtrack to a 90s teen movie, the beautiful racket induced by bassist/vocalist Heather and guitarist Matt is self described as ‘slack-metal’. Following in the vein of similarly angsty takes from Joanna Gruesome or Mannequin Pussy, ‘Drag’ is one of the first songs Slowcoaches ever wrote, which might explain the infectious rawness it exudes.

In spite of the single’s upbeat’n’sweet sound, the forthcoming debut album ‘Nothing Gives’ concerns itself with largely negative subject matter: break-ups, breakdowns, a pre-mid life crisis, a drug induced mental illness, falling out with friends, getting way too wrecked, losing your job then desperately trying to find a job. “When I looked at the lyrics for this album all together I thought, ‘oh man, this is so bleak!” says Heather, but sometimes the best medicine for a bad day are a few pumped-up raucous jams – and Slowcoaches deliver these aplenty.

‘Drag’ most definitely sounds like a track that feels as though it has to be seen live to fully experience. And FANCY THAT Slowcoaches are heading out on tour through December – check ‘em out at any of the dates below, and check the blood-pumping new single while you’re at it.
