Everything about ‘Tides’, the latest single from dream pop five-piece Swimming Tapes, has the feel of a sunset evening at the end of a long beach side day. Between gaps in the waves of vocals, Robbie Reid and Louis Price’s waltzing reverberations allow the music to drift in and out of focus.
Since their successful previous releases the band has undergone a reshuffle, with Price premiering his singing duties, giving the track a bolder focal point. The vocal attitude in ‘Set The Fire’ was a soft, blithe rendition of the equally dreamy lyrics – on ‘Tides’ we’re treated to the same gentility of voice, but with a sharper fullness.
Packed with vivid imagery in the lyrics, as well as the duelling glitter-riffs scattered throughout, Swimming Tapes continue to put worn-out instagram filters over magic memories.
