TRACK OF THE DAY: Westerman – ‘Misanthrope’

The latest release from 23-year-old storyteller Westerman follows the charming fictional love story about a girl he meets in the French town of Saint-Tropez – inspired by his younger sisters mispronunciation of ‘Misanthrope’. Sweet, right?

Collaborating with left-field electronic pop producer and DEEK Recordings founder Bullion, Misanthrope places bewitching modern-folk over a glitchy synthetic pulse, creating a distinctive and enchanting sound which is as memorable as it is beautiful. Let this dreamy and tender folk ballad wash over you like, well, the waves of Saint-Tropez? Is that too corny? Probably.

Influenced by John Martyn, Nick Drake and Neil Young, Westerman’s sound alludes to the greats, but the wordsmith pushes classic folk into 2016, referencing José González, Junip, Eaves and C. Duncan.

Westerman will support Chelou at the Waiting Room in London on Tuesday 26th April.
