If you’ve got a hankering for the kind of guitar-led indie pop/rock that was prevalent in the late ’90s/early ’00s, then you won’t go far wrong giving this a few plays.
Manchester up-and-comers VALA have knocked out a tune bursting with energy and packed with ideas – almost too many for just the one track.
It’s not particularly new and it’s not particularly groundbreaking, but it’s the kind of song you immediately feel comfortable with – like you might already know it but you can’t remember where from.
Chances are if you heard it on a night out you’d be nodding your head appreciatively while it played over the PA.
There are shades of early Arctic Monkeys and a chorus which resembles the Stereophonics in their better moments, which isn’t a bad thing if you consider their better moments to all be on their debut album.
There’s a pleasant immediacy and urgency to the playing with an engaging vocal delivery from Joe Knowles that makes you think they might just have something.
The new single ‘Mirror’ is out now – available to purchase on iTunes here.
